READING FOR EXTRA CREDIT (OPTIONAL!)

Choose something you like from the reading lists . . .

If you read an article or a chapter in a book on the reading lists, you may submit a short report about it.

A good report will usually earn 1 point of extra credit
(in comparison each exam will have a maximum of 20 points of credit).

You can earn credit for no more than 1 report each week.

Also no reports accepted after Friday December 10.

The object is to read about topics as we discuss them in class.

A good report . . .

  • has your name at the top
  • includes a full reference for the book or article
  • indicates where you obtained the book or article
  • shows that you have read the article
  • shows that you have thought about it
  • is submitted before or soon after a topic is discussed in lecture
  • is typed (word-processed and printed) -- paper copy is required -- no email!
  • is brief (a short paragraph -- no more than 15 lines, double-spaced, 12-point font)

You may talk with other people about your reading but . . .

you must prepare your reports by yourself.

Have fun reading!

ALMOST ALL OF THESE ARTICLES ARE AVAILABLE ON THE LIBRARY WEB SITE ...

http://eresources.lib.unc.edu/ejournal/

Just enter the title of the journal in the "By Title" search box ... and then use the volume number and the page numbers to find the article.   You can also try entering the title of the article (or key words) in the "Article Search" box.

The list of readings has all the information you need to find each article ... the title of every article is followed by the title of the journal, the number of the volume, and (after a colon) the page numbers in that volume.

Some items on the reading lists are chapters in books.   These books are on reserve in the Chemistry/Biology Library (across South Road from the Bell Tower).
