IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT FIELD TRIPS

SAFETY IS EVERYBODY'S RESPONSIBILITY!

It is everybody's responsibility to stay alert to safety and, if any problem arises, to take reasonable action to correct it and to alert me immediately.   All vehicles have radios to allow communication at any time.

All vehicles have a seat belt for everybody. Use your seat belt!

If you have any health problem that might need attention during a field trip, make sure that you can take care of yourself -- or excuse yourself from the trip.   If you might need help, let me know in advance.

WHAT TO BRING

We will spend many hours outdoors on these field trips.   Come prepared for cold, wind, and rain and for brambles, poison ivy, and rough hiking (bring poncho or rain jacket, warm coat, hat, long pants, dry shoes).   A hat and long pants are especially important!   Also bring a small pack (which can fit under a car seat) for anything you want to be sure to have with you at any time (field guide, notebook, pencil, hat, reading, water, TP, personal items . . .).   For trips to the coast, bring a sleeping bag too.

EXPENSES

The Biology Department will provide the transportation for all of our field trips.

For the weekend trip to the Outer Banks in January, we share the costs of lodging for Friday and Saturday nights (total about $45/person).   We also share the costs of breakfasts and lunches Saturday and Sunday (about $15/person).   So the total shared cost for this weekend is about $60/person.

The department pays these costs for graduate student drivers!

Everybody will also have to pay for dinners Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (nothing fancy!).

The overnight trip to the coast in April only costs about $20/person for shared expenses.   Everybody will also have to buy dinner Friday.
