SAFETY   IS   EVERYBODY'S   RESPONSIBILITY!

It is everybody's responsibility to stay alert to safety and, if any problem arises, to take reasonable action to correct it and to alert me immediately.   All vehicles have radios to allow communication at any time.

All vehicles have a seat belt for everybody.   USE YOUR SEAT BELT!

If you have any health problem that might need attention during a field trip, make sure that you can take care of yourself -- or excuse yourself from the trip.   If you might need help, let me know in advance.

WHAT TO BRING

We will spend many hours outdoors on this field trip.   Come prepared for cold (even in April), wind, and rain ... for brambles, poison ivy, and rough hiking ... and for sun (with any luck!)

Bring poncho or rain jacket, hat, long pants, dry shoes, sun screen.   Long pants are especially important!

Also bring a small pack (which can fit under a car seat) for anything you want to be sure to have with you at any time (field guide, notebook, pencil, hat, reading, water, TP, personal items . . .).

Expect some wading on Friday night and Saturday, so have some old shoes (boots) and old pants to get wet and muddy.   On Friday, keep some dry pants and shoes handy for the restaurant!

Don't forget a sleeping bag and a towel.

Also a small tent ... if you have one.   Let's team up to share tents.

EXPENSES

The Biology Department will provide the transportation for all of our field trips.

We will share the costs for the UNC-IMS dorm on Saturday night (total about $10/person).   We also will share the costs of picnic lunch and afternoon snack Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday (about $10/person).   And also a short boat ride ($10/person).   Shared costs for this weekend will come to about $30 total/person.

Each of us will also need money to buy dinner Friday night.   We'll try to find a local place where we can eat for $15 or less.
